Weighing and bagging machine
Automated weight dosing and bag filling, for a weight that matches the declared unit.
What this machine does
The bagging machine doses and fills bags to a set weight. Its role is as much commercial as technical: the weight stated on the pack commits the manufacturer, and controlling the spread around that value is a direct economic issue. Too much product in each bag is margin given away; too little is a non-conformity and a risk of dispute.
Dosing relies on dynamic weighing: a screw or a gate feeds the weighing receptacle until the set point is approached, then the rate is reduced to reach the target value precisely. Accuracy depends on the regularity of the product — its bulk density varies with moisture and particle size — and on the calibration of the load cell, which must be checked periodically, not only at installation.

The parts that do the work
Feed hopper
Buffer supply providing a steady flow to the dosing system.
Weight dosing
Load cell with fast approach then fine trickle to the set point.
Filling station
Spout and bag holder, with the cycle triggered by the operator.
Setting interface
Screen for entering the set point and parameters, with format memory.
Technical data and configurations
| Characteristic | Indicative value |
|---|---|
| Dosing range | according to model and bag format |
| Accuracy | depends on the product and on calibration |
| Cadence | according to format and station organisation |
| Supply | electric, according to model |
| Product contact materials | food-grade stainless steel |
| Interface | set point and format memory |
| Bag closing | sewing machine or heat sealer as a complement |
| Checking | check-weighing recommended at the outlet |
These are usual design ranges for this type of machine, intended to guide early thinking. The contractual characteristics of the equipment actually manufactured — throughputs measured at acceptance, absorbed power, real footprint and weight — are established by the SOTIC design office and stated in the technical offer.
Available configurations
- Several dosing ranges according to the formats marketed.
- Paired with a bag sewing machine or a heat sealer.
- Version with outfeed conveyor for high cadences.
Installation requirements
- Station sited at the end of the line, in a clean, dry area.
- Extraction at the filling point for powdery products.
- Flat, rigid floor: vibration disturbs the load cell.
- Stable electrical supply, voltage variations affecting the weighing electronics.
Maintenance and safety at the workstation
A machine lasts as long as its maintenance does. The points below appear in the preventive maintenance plan handed over at acceptance and are covered during operator training.
Preventive maintenance
- Periodic calibration of the load cell with reference weights.
- Cleaning of the dosing members, whose fouling changes the flow and therefore the accuracy.
- Check gaskets and hopper tightness.
- Check for parasitic vibration transmitted by neighbouring machines.
Safety
- Isolation before any work in the hopper or on the dosing members.
- Wear a mask for powdery products.
- Guarding of the moving parts of the filling station.
Before ordering this machine
It depends on the product and its regularity: a calibrated grain is dosed far more precisely than a flour whose bulk density varies with moisture and settling. The sound approach is to measure the actual spread over a run of bags, then set the target accordingly, rather than relying on a figure quoted in a brochure.
Yes, at least by sampling. Load cell drift is silent: nothing signals it on the machine's screen. Weighing a few bags per batch and recording the result protects both against contentious under-filling and against over-filling that quietly erodes margin.
