Compact tractor
Versatile traction for small and medium farms, with three-point linkage and power take-off.
What this machine does
The compact tractor brings motorised traction to farms whose size does not justify a high-powered tractor, and whose fragmented plots or narrow access would rule one out in any case. Its versatility rests on standardised interfaces: a three-point linkage and a power take-off allow a tillage implement, a seed drill, a flail mower, a trailer or a pump to be hitched in turn, turning one power unit into several production tools.
The rule to respect is the match between available power and the implement hitched. An implement that is too wide forces a reduction in forward speed or working depth: field capacity collapses, consumption per hectare rises and wheel slip damages soil structure instead of pulling the implement. On tropical ferrallitic soils, sensitive to compaction, ballasting, tyre pressure and working width are not details of operation but agronomic parameters.

The parts that do the work
Three-point linkage
Standardised category I or II hitch allowing implements to be carried and their depth set.
Standard power take-off
Drives powered implements — flail mower, pump, rotary tiller — at standard speed.
Transmission and ballasting
Two or four-wheel drive, with ballasting available so that pull reaches the ground without excessive slip.
Driving position
Accessible controls, seat and roll bar according to configuration, with simplicity of servicing as a design priority.
Technical data and configurations
| Characteristic | Indicative value |
|---|---|
| Power | 15 to 40 hp depending on model |
| Transmission | 2 or 4-wheel drive |
| Linkage | 3-point category I / II |
| Power take-off | 540 rpm |
| Acceptable wheel slip | 10 to 15 % on load-bearing soil |
| Compatible implements | plough, disc harrow, seed drill, flail mower, trailer, pump |
| Fuel | diesel |
| Servicing | common parts available locally |
These are usual design ranges for this type of machine, intended to guide early thinking. The contractual characteristics of the equipment actually manufactured — throughputs measured at acceptance, absorbed power, real footprint and weight — are established by the SOTIC design office and stated in the technical offer.
Available configurations
- Several power ratings according to areas and intended implements.
- Implements supplied as a coherent set matched to the power.
- Front and rear ballasting options according to the dominant work.
Installation requirements
- No fixed installation, but covered shelter is essential to the working life of the machine.
- Stock of wear parts and consumables built up before the campaign.
- Washing and servicing area with used-oil collection.
- Training of the driver or drivers before first use.
Maintenance and safety at the workstation
A machine lasts as long as its maintenance does. The points below appear in the preventive maintenance plan handed over at acceptance and are covered during operator training.
Preventive maintenance
- Strict observance of oil change and filter replacement intervals.
- Daily check of levels and tyre pressures, set to the load rather than left at road pressure.
- Greasing of linkage joints and checking of play.
- Check driveshaft guards before every use of a powered implement.
Safety
- Never work under a raised implement without a stand or chocks.
- Driveshaft guards are mandatory and must be sound: their absence is a frequent cause of serious accidents.
- Take care on slopes and soft ground: overturning is the leading risk in farm mechanisation.
Before ordering this machine
The calculation rests on the number of hectares worked per year and on the value of controlling the calendar. Below a certain threshold, fixed costs — amortisation, shelter, training, downtime — are poorly absorbed and contracting is cheaper, provided it is available at the agronomically right moment, which is precisely the difficulty at peak season. We build that calculation from the actual cropping plan rather than from a general rule.
The most common order is: a tillage implement matched to the soil texture, then a trailer — often the most used tool of the year, all tasks considered — then maintenance and sowing implements. Each implement must be chosen in keeping with the available power: an oversized implement does not work better, it works worse and consumes more.
